The newly-elected president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Frank Ankobea, has revealed that as part of his plans to resuscitate the health sector in Ghana, surgeries that are carried out in some advanced countries will be televised in Ghana to equip local doctors to carry out effective surgeries.

According to him, the health sector in Ghana is bedeviled with a lot of challenges that require modern technology in solving, hence the plan to broadcast surgeries that are conducted in these advanced countries.

Dr Ankobea, made these remarks while speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom programme on Accra100.5FM on Monday, 13 November, in connection with the plans he has for the GMA as the newly-elected president.

He said: “I will ensure continuous education for our doctors in Ghana to equip them with new and fresh ideas on how to deal with the health concerns of Ghanaians.”

“From time to time, Doctors in the advanced country would be brought to Ghana to assist our local doctors with new ideas, the surgeries that are conducted in those countries will be televised here in Ghana and as we watch, we will be picking up new ideas on how to conduct surgeries.

“It is very necessary that we do this because we can’t continue to do the same thing all the time, we need to equip ourselves with more ideas.”

Dr Ankobea was elected at a conference by the GMA in Kumasi over the weekend.
