Leadership in hospital management have over the years complained about inadequate materials to offer healthcare services to patients who are subsequently sent away or referred to other hospitals regardless of their condition.

These actions have prompted the institution of the maiden annual Healthcare Quality GhanaWeb Forum 2013 which is a gathering of healthcare professionals and non-healthcare professionals to talk about quality improvement in healthcare delivery.

The 2013 Forum is being organized by GhanaWeb to look critically at the quality of healthcare delivery in Ghana and its economic and human implications to effect meaningful improvement.

Speaking on the role of leadership in providing quality healthcare delivery is Dr. Daniel Asare who is the CEO of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

He is an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist and a Manager who has had the opportunity to be a steward to many hospitals in Ghana starting from Wenchi Methodist Hospital as Medical Superintendent from 2004-2006, Medical Superintendent for old Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital, Sunyani from 2000-2003. He was the first medical director appointed to the new ultra-modern Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani from 2003-2010.

In 2010 he was transferred to Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua. He was selected to head the new Cape-Coast teaching hospital from June 2012 to date. He has been in the forefront of a challenging but innovative management practices in the Ghana Health Service spanning more than a decade.

He believes Leadership of our health institutions is not the best but very key to quality health care delivery.

The irony, however, is that not much attention has been given to grooming leaders to head multi-disciplinary and multi-million dollars health facilities in Ghana.

Dr. Daniel Asare would be speaking alongside Dr. Joseph Boateng, a Physician Specialist and Convener of the Forum, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon, Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, a pathologist and veteran politician, Dr. Eli Atikpui, Registrar, Medical and Dental Council and Dr. Lydia Dzane-Selby, Director of Claims, NHIS/NHIA.

Others are Dr. Francis Agyemang-Yeboah, Visiting Senior Lecturer, UGMS, Medico-Legal Expert, Dr. Harold Ayetey, Senior Lecturer and Specialist Physician at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and UCCSMS, Mr. Joseph Kodjo Nsiah Nyoagbe, Registrar, Pharmacy Council, Mr. Samuel Paulos, Founder and Director Gateway 4 Youth and Dr. Edoardo Peterlini, Team Leader, TRAQUE.
