Foundation to offer medical outreach for children with special needs

Chalé Foundation, a non-profit Organization, dedicated to humanitarian services as part of its planned activities for 2018, would visit the New Horizon Special School to provide health care services and donate stationaries to the School.

Chalé Foundation is dedicated to providing primary healthcare services for disabled and less privileged children in the community, through medical outreaches and support services.

Dr Nii Lante Heward-Mills, the Director of Partnership, Chalé Foundation, who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the Foundation has over the past three years, provided free and continuous medical screening to children of the Dzorwulu Special School and the Teshie Orphanage, all in Accra and the Aboom Special School in Cape Coast.

"We have also collaborated with Play and Learn Foundation to organize a health walk in support of disadvantaged children dubbed “Walk For Love”, Dr Heward-Mills said.

The New Horizon Special School was established by Mrs. Salome Francois in 1972 and is registered with the Ministry of Education. The school has been legally registered as a Voluntary, Non-Profit making and charitable institution in Ghana.

The school provides day school education for children and vocational training as well as employment for adults who have intellectual disability.

Persons with other disabilities including spastic, cerebral palsy, visually impaired, hearing impaired are also admitted, so long as their primary disability is learning difficulty.

Presently students aged four to forty plus years attend the school.

Over 100 individuals, comprising of special needs children and teachers will benefit from the screening exercise.

Dr Heward-Mills said Chalé Foundation continues to push the boundaries when it comes to providing access to free healthcare and social interventions for special needs children and the vulnerable in the country.
