GHS deploys rapid response team over high typhoid cases in Oti Region

A reported surge in typhoid fever cases in some parts of the Oti Region has been confirmed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The institution said that, as part of its efforts, it has deployed a rapid response team to the affected areas of the region, particularly the Biakoye, Krachi East, Krachi West, and Krachi Nchumuru Districts, to gather first-hand information and assess the situation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and signed by the Acting Deputy Director General, Dr Caroline Reindorf Amissah, the GHS added that it has collaborated with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council to address the rise in recorded typhoid cases.

“The Ghana Health Service, in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council under the leadership of the Ministry of Health, are coordinating efforts to respond to the reported surge in the number of Typhoid Fever cases in the Oti Region, especially in Biakoye, Krachi East, Krachi West and Krachi Nchumuru Districts.

“The Service, with support from the Ministry, has deployed the National Case Management Rapid Response Team, to support the regional team to ascertain the situation,” the statement read.

The GHS advised the general public to take preventive measures to avoid contracting the disease, which can be fatal.

It also called for calm, assuring the public of its commitment to addressing the issue and protecting lives in the affected areas.

“We wish to entreat the public to remain calm and follow the expert advice from the medical personnel on the ground. We will provide further details after the initial assessment and institute measures that will protect life in the affected districts and the region as a whole,” it added.
