The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says, it has taken measures to control the spread of the yellow fever disease in the Jaman South District and is calling for calm.

Three cases had so far been reported in three separate communities in the area. The patients – two young women and an elderly man, are under strict medication.

Dr. Osei Kuffuor Afreh, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Health Director (Public Health), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that, they were scaling up yellow fever vaccination in the district.

He counseled the people, especially in the communities, where the disease, had been reported to sleep under insecticide treated nets, freely distributed to them by the Regional Health Directorate.

They should also clean the gutters and destroy breeding grounds for mosquitoes including stagnant waters.

Dr. Afreh identified some of the symptoms of the disease as yellowish eyes and fever, and asked the people to immediately visit the nearest health facility when they showed these signs.
