Ghanaians have been urged to help the fight against quack doctors who are seeking to bring down the image of professionalism in the health sector, Dr Frank Ankobia, president of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has pleaded.
Close to five of these quack doctors have been arrested this year alone on many grounds.
The situation is now on the rise whilst government is trying to clump down on the criminality.
The GMA is therefore calling on all citizens of Ghana including those in authority to help fight the criminals out of the health service.
Speaking on Accra FM on Monday, Mr Ankobia stated that, there are agencies like Medical and Mental Council and Heath Facilities Regulatory Authority mandated to make sure all fake doctors are arrested. “They can’t work effectively because they lack the facilities to execute their duties”. He emphasized
On the other hand, Mr Ankobia descended on Ghanaians, blaming them for patronizing services of such doctors when they should be calling for their arrest. He chided that; “Ghanaians must be vigilant enough to be able to identify a quack doctor”.
“Can’t you identify someone who is a quack doctor? Most of these people we talk about can be identified by the kind of environment they work in. You would be worried to see where they practice the profession. And Ghanaians must be able to know that”. He explained
He further noted that, Ghanaians must be blamed for having too many of such people in the sector.
The GMA is therefore urging Ghanaians to report to the police of anyone you suspect to be fake doctor so that the country can do away with them.
