The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has organized a Safety Awareness Walk as part of its ten years anniversary to enable the workers exercise their bodies in order to keep fit for their respective roles.
The walk which started at about 6am on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from Ayi Mensah to Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern Region was led by the Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo Ing. Jonathan Amoako Baah.
Despite the early morning rains the staff of GRIDCo, defied the rains and walked to exercise their bodies to burn some calories.
After covering more than 10 km and being wet by the early morning rains, the staff finally converged at the Aburi Botanical Gardens, where they were taken through some aerobics.
Speaking in an interview after the walk under the theme: “Safety Awareness Walk”, the CEO of GRIDCo Ing. Jonathan Amoako Baah said “it is said that a sound mind is in a healthy body so for people to be able to work very hard they should have a healthy body. Exercise is part of keeping healthy.
“And I think that when we have this type of things every now and then we will keep our people healthy and it will even cut down the cost of people going to the hospital,” he explained.
He noted that when the staff are healthy and not visiting hospitals regularly it would be an advantage to the company explaining that “if we don’t have people going to the hospital I think we can use the money to do other things."
According to Ing. Amoako Baah, the health of the company’s staff is paramount as far as their operational activities are concerned hence have set up gyms in all its operational areas so the staff can go there and exercise to keep fit.
He said the company would consider instituting health walk as a quarterly event as part of the company's operations.
He commended the staff of the company for contributing to the achievements of GRIDCo since it was created from the Volta River Authority.
He advised them to continue to work hard in order to ensure continuous supply of electricity in the country.
