Ghana Health Service to decentralise employment of staff

Koforidua, Dec. 3, GNA - The Ghana Health Service (GHS) would from next year decentralise the employment of staff to meet the manpower needs of the regions. Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah, Director of Human Resource of the GHS who made this Known in Koforidua said funds would be allocated to the regions to facilitate the process.

Dr Appiah-Denkyirah was speaking at the launching of the Capacity Evaluation and Development study in the Eastern Region on Wednesday. He called on the regional and district directors of Health to liaise with the assemblies to provide accommodation and other services to the employees. The Deputy Regional Director of Health Services, Dr George Bonsu said the region had developed a peer review mechanism to monitor performance. He explained that the mechanism allows the district health management teams to monitor their activities using an integrated checklist. In a speech read on his behalf, the Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo urged the GHS to march the changing needs of the service with quality manpower and strive to acquire the needed knowledge and expertise to manage resources effectively.

Prof. Samuel Adjei of the Centre for Health and Social Services who is undertaking the study said the programme would include collection and analysis of data on medical resources. He said the project was being financed by the Netherlands and the first phase was expected to be completed in March next year for inclusion into the government new health policy.
