The Parish Priest of Christ the King Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campell has indicated that as a nation, Ghanaians have cause to be proud of the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in spite of the challenges it might have.
According to Rev. Fr. Campbell, in-spite of the challenges the hospital faces, the professionalism of its staff both medical and para-medical is comparable to what can be seen anywhere else in the world adding “let us thank God for that.”
The prelate, in a telephone interview with The Al-Hajj disclosed that he was admitted to Korle-Bu on November 13, 2011 for a surgery and for the entire four days that he stayed there, he was touched by the care and kindness of all the staff on the sixth floor of the surgical block where he was hospitalized.
He made special mention of Dr. Adu Aryee and his wonderful team of doctors and anesthetists together with their nurses for the efficiency and call to duty.
Fr. Campell stated that his experience at Korle-Bu fills him with joy at the realization that “we still have in Ghana people who are really dedicated to their work and endeavour to bring back smiles to the faces of people otherwise in pain and asked for God’s blessings for all in the country’s premier Teaching hospital.
In a related development, Mr. Winfred Olertey Tetteh whose wife Naomi Aku Tetteh was hospitalized at Korle-bu where she underwent a life threatening surgery successfully had this to say about the hospital. “Now my perception about Korle-bu has changed and I thank the team for the good health care”.
He goes on to say that, “Despite the frustrations they go through in discharging their duties, they worked as professionals, it was of their love and special care that saved Naomi. Nurses at the Intensive Care Unit must be well commended for their selfless dedication; they treated her as if she was the only patient at the hospital. This is a mark of true professionalism. With this experience I can boldly say without fear or contradiction that Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital is the best we have in the sub-region”.
In yet another related development, former president John Kufuor was full of praise for the professionalism and care exhibited by all the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of the Cardiothoracic Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
Mr. Kufuor made this commendation after he underwent a two-hour long operation carried out by a team of doctors led by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei, the internationally acknowledged spinal surgeon and his team from The Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine Clinic in Accra.
Expressing his appreciation to the team, former President Kufuor said: “Ghana should be proud to have such a competent store of talent who show concern and dedication comparable to anywhere else in the world. Society should acknowledge and make full use of this great human resource. ”
