Ghanaians advised against excessive use of sedatives

A Naturopathic on Friday cautioned Ghanaians against the excessive use of sedative substances or “pain killers”.

Dr. Eudorah Kudiabor, a Naturopathic, and Director of Life Scientist and Global Doctors Health Institution, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) for health issues, said such medicines reduce pain, tension and anxiety in the body, therefore, they could weaken the muscles and hide the symptoms of diseases.

She, therefore, entreated people to report to the nearest health facility when in pain since it’s an indication that the body was not in good condition.

Dr. Kudiabor gave the advice at the launch of a free spinal and health care screening exercise organised by the NGO in Takoradi.

She appealed to the public to practice proper sitting positions, eat healthy diets and live healthy lifestyles, to prevent diseases instead of spending money to cure them.

Dr. Kudiabor attributed major causes of diseases to lack of knowledge on preventive measures and said the Organisation aims at educating the general public on preventive measures and advised them to take advantage of the exercise to check their health status.

Dr. Dean Neter Seneb, a Chiropractor, also appealed to the public to refrain from carrying heavy loads for longer periods, wearing high heeled shoes and keeping wallets at the back of the pocket.

He said such practices exerted extreme pressure on the spinal cord thereby damaging and causing a lot of pain to the body, adding that, the spine was the “curves of life” for everybody, so it should be treated with care.
