Government has confirmed Dr. Prosper Akambong as the substantive Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital after the position became vacant a year ago.

The appointment is expected to enhance management in the hospital to ensure quality healthcare delivery in the biggest referral medical facility that serves the three northern regions.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Kweku Agyemang Mensah, who is on a working visit to Tamale, announced this to thunderous applause from medical personnel.

He emphasised government’s commitment to improve access to quality healthcare services.

Dr. Kweku Agyemang Mensah advised people to be conscious about their health and adopt a lifestyle that will reduce their risk of contracting some diseases.

He stressed that the recent outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country, particularly in the Greater Accra Region, should be a reminder to people to watch their diet and keep their surroundings clean.

“I want to remind people to be mindful of where they patronise food. There is the need to ensure cleanliness in society to avoid any outbreak of disease,” he said.

He urged medical personnel at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to provide the needed support to the new CEO to enable him to discharge his responsibilities effectively.

Dr. Akambong expressed his delight at his appointment and assured that he will work to improve healthcare delivery in one of the neglected and poverty endemic regions in the country.
