Country

Government alone cannot provide health needs of Ghanaians, we need everybody – First Lady

First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Rebecca Akufo- Addo has called on all Ghanaians to get on board to help provide a solution to the country’s health needs as government cannot do it alone.

In her address during the launch of the Rotary Health Days in Accra, the first lady explained that with the help of Ghanaians, the Rebecca Foundation commissioned the mother and baby unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and “is helping to build a hostel for parents of children receiving cancer treatment at Korle-Bu.”

She also revealed that they intend “to build a paediatric intensive care unit for the children’s block of the Korle-Bu Teachng Hopital.”

Expressing her joy at the launch of the event themed, “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities” by Rotary Ghana to provide health services for the underprivileged in the Ghanaian society, Mrs Akufo-Addo remarked that “health is one of the most precious commodities on earth because health is wealth.”

The event will include HIV Testing and TB Screening, Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screening, Polio and Measles Vaccination and Vitamin A supplementation.

Commending the efforts of Rotary to healthcare delivery in Ghana, the First Lady intimated that, “Rotary Ghana is also to be commended for your work in the in the construction of cleaning and the provision of medical facilities and supplies.”

Past District Governor of Roatry Ghana, Adotei Brown outlined that, screening exercises will be held simultaneously in eight regions at some specific areas such as Accra, Tema, Koforidua, Ho, Hohoe, Cape Coast, Apam, Swedru, Winneba, Kumasi, Sekondi-Takoradi, Sunyani, Berekum, Techiman, Tamale and Tarkwa.

The three-day campaign, which will involve volunteers from all parts of Ghana, aims to serve 50,000 Ghanaians nationwide.
