Government committed to establish a polyclinic at Elubo

Mr. Ernest Kofie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Jomoro in Western Region, has said plans are far advanced to build a polyclinic at Elubo, a border town in the Municipality.

When completed, it will provide healthcare delivery to the people in and around the community.

According to the MCE, the Assembly has acquired a 15-acre land for putting up the facility.

The MCE disclosed this at the Meet the Press series organised by the Assembly at Half Assini Senior High School.

The program was to showcase the performance of the Assembly in the implementation of government’s policies and programmes since January 2017.

The MCE said very soon the Minister for Health would be cutting sod for commencement of the 42-bed health facility.

He said the only hospital that serves the whole Jomoro was the Half-Assini Government Hospital, adding that when this polyclinic is built, it would reduce the pressure on the Half Assini Government Hospital.

He bemoaned how residents at Elubo and its environs struggle in accessing good health care when they fall sick.

Accessing the Half Assini Government Hospital has been very challenging due to the bad nature of the road network linking Half Assini Government Hospital especially along Samenye-Half Assini road.

He said before the commencement and completion of the project, the Assembly had provided an Ambulance to the Elubo health center to refer emergency cases to Half Assini Government Hospital, Eikwe Hospital and Effia Nkwanta Government Hospital in Takoradi.

The 42-bed health facility is expected to have Out-Patient Department, Theatre, Staff housing units, In-patient service, Medical, surgical, pediatrics and maternity, sterilisation, stores, delivery rooms, general administration, pharmacy among others.

It is the vision of the Government of Ghana that, by 2030, there will be reduction in maternal and neonatal deaths, access to health facilities to all citizens of the country.

Mr. Ernest Kofie said the NDC in 2016 put it in their "Green Book" that they had built a polyclinic at Elubo and according to him, nothing was found there when they went to the town.

In this regard, he said the Akufo-Addo-led government would never disappoint the good people of Elubo, adding that the contractor had finished building his workstation, and only waiting for the Health Minister to cut sod for the project to start.
