Government to complete the Akatsi, Bekwai District hospitals – Kwaku Agyeman-Manu

Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu has said the government of Ghana is committed to completing the Akatsi District hospital in the Volta Region as well as the Bekwai District hospital in the Ashanti Region.

The minister, addressing the press stated that the Akatsi district hospital project which includes male and female wards, central supply and sterilization department, laundry, theatre, mortuary and block of flats is in progress and it is about 70 per cent complete.

He said the project will cost the ministry GHC12m and it is in the process of securing funds to fully equip the hospital.

“Ministry of Health is in the process of securing funds to fully equip the hospital as well as the provision of critical mechanical and electrical installations” he stated.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu further mentioned that government has secured a loan of E22.3m through Ellipse project S.A.S to fully complete the Bekwai District hospital.

He said the project will complete the remaining civil works, supply and install requite equipment which will provide training and maintenance.

“The project scopes include the completion of the remaining civil works, supply and installation of requisite equipment, provision of training and maintenance” he stressed.

He added that the ministry has received Cabinet and parliamentary approval to contract the loan for the construction of the hospital.

“Both Cabinet and Parliamentary approvals have been received to contract the loan for the construction. The ministry is awaiting the final value for money (VFM) audit report based on negotiations with the contractor to enable the Ministry submit the supply contract to Parliament for approval” he stated.
