The Half Assini Government Hospital, at the weekend, offered free medical screening to over 400 residents, as part of its outreach programme.

During the exercise, those diagnosed with diseases, including Hypertension and Diabetes, were given medication and referred to the hospital, while others were D-wormed and their blood groups made known to them.

They were all given free medication.

The Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) of the facility, Ms Anna Austine, who led the exercise, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Half-Assini that this was the third programme by the facility this year after those at Egbazo and Ahobre.

She said the exercise was aimed at promoting Hospital-Client relationships, and encouraging the people to attend hospital whenever they fell sick.

This, she said, would make them healthy.

According to her, most of the people screened were not aware of having such diseases.

She stated that inadequate logistics had made it impossible for many people to be covered in the exercise, and expressed management's hope to organize another one in the town by the end of the year.

The Medical Superintendent of the facility, Dr Jonathan Mensah, speaking to the GNA later, said the district had a lot of “hard to reach villages”.

Dr Mensah said this made it very difficult for the facility to undertake periodic routine medical outreaches to address their health needs.

He said the programme, introduced about three years ago, had so far made a significant impact on quality health delivery in the district.

Dr Mensah therefore appealed to individuals, organizations and pharmaceutical companies, for drugs and sponsorships, to sustain the programme.
