Frequent masturbation can reduce the quantity of semen a man produces, a reproductive health expert, has said.
It, however, does not, in “most times,” affect the quality of the semen produced, Dr Fredua Akosah told MORNING STARR host Kafui Dey, Thursday.
He said: “Masturbation will probably reduce the amount of semen that you produce. Which is why we ask patients who want to have semen analysis not to engage in any sexual activities at least two or three days before the test. So yes, it will reduce the volume of the semen you will produce.”
“….Within normal limits no,” he responded to a question about whether masturbation can affect the quality of a man’s sperm. “You should be able to achieve at least 20 million sperms per mil at minimum,” he added.
Dr Akosah also warned men against excessive intake of alcohol, since it can affect the quality of their sperm.
He advised that as much as possible, men must endeavour to wear loose underwear to allow enough air to circulate around their scrotum.
