Juaso (Ash), June 29, GNA - Health extension workers employed under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) in the Asante-Akim South district have been urged to eschew laziness and malingering towards duty.

This is to ensure the success of government's efforts to improve health delivery and also justify the investment made in them. Dr. Lord Justice Gyamfi-Fenteng, the District Chief Executive, who said this at a meeting with 50 trained health extension workers at Juaso, said there would be no hesitation in withdrawing the services of those who would perform below expectation.

He implored them to use the opportunity to upgrade themselves to become qualified nurses, saying the assembly would assist those who would demonstrate zeal to pursue further academic laurels. The DCE further urged them to be submissive to their superiors in order to benefit from their experiences to promote quality health care delivery in the district.

Dr Franklin Asiedu Bekoe, District Director of Health Services, reminded them of the enormity of the task ahead, adding that tolerance with patients was vital in their chosen career. He called for effective collaboration between the trainees and nurses at the various health facilities to enhance overall health care delivery in the district.

Dr Bekoe pledged his outfit's support and charged them to work diligently to warrant the training of more people to augment the number of existing health workers. 29 June 07
