The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has revised its health premium to a uniform 16.00 Ghana cedis in all districts in the Upper West Region.
It says even though the amount is higher than the initial 9.00 Ghana cedis it still took the less endowed nature of people in the region into consideration.
The Authority, per Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1809, is mandated to peg the premium within the range of 7.20 Ghana cedis minimum and 48.00 Ghana cedi maximum, Mr. Titus Sorey, the Upper West Regional Director of the NHIA has revealed at its annual review meeting in Wa.
He appealed to the District Scheme managers to ensure that all funds received were banked within 24hours.
Mr Sorey said some reforms involving the review of the benefits package and the exempt categories were also being considered.
In respect of 2014 NHIS reimbursement, Mr. Sorey said providers had been reimbursed up to July and that reimbursement to providers for August 2014 was also on-going.
“Plans to pay off the rest by the end of May 2015 are far advanced,” he said.
Mr. Sorey said even though the Upper West Region was affected by the delays because of its high active card bearing subscribers, providers had never threatened to turn away NHIS card bearing members.
He said NHIS enjoyed cordial relationship with service providers in the region and commended them for the patience and understanding over the difficult times with regards to claims reimbursement.
He expressed the hope that such a relationship would be maintained while all efforts were being made by the NHIS to reimburse service providers appropriately and on time.
Mr. Sorey appealed to all key stakeholders to embrace the yet but soon to be roll out capitation in six regions including the Upper West, which would migrate onto the instant ID Card regime based on bio-data.
Mr. Kwami Gyamfi, Upper West Regional NHIA Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, said as at 2014 active membership stood at 427,296.
