Mankranso (Ash), March 22, GNA- Mr Stephen Balado Manu, Member of Parliament for Ahafo-Ano South, on Wednesday observed that strike actions by health personnel to demand increase in salaries and other allowances had affected the socio-economic development of the country. He has, therefore, urged them to avoid such practices and render quality services to justify the huge investment being made by government in their training.
Mr Manu was speaking at the launch of a six-month training for 78 health extension workers of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), at Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South District. The training, organized by the District Assembly in conjunction with the Ministry of Manpower, Youth and Employment was aimed at equipping the beneficiaries with the requisite skills to facilitate their work.
He said nation building should not only be the responsibility of government and politicians alone but all hands should be on deck towards national development.
Mr Kwaku Obeng Boateng, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly was sponsoring a number of nurses trainees, expected to return to work in the district after completion of their courses. He advised the trainees to take the training seriously to work efficiently to improve on health care delivery, after the completion of the programme.
Mr Michael Oduro Kwarteng, Deputy National Co-ordinator of the NYEP, said the programme aimed at providing employment for the youth to enable them contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the country.
Nana Obiri Agyei Mankran II, chief of Mankranso, commended the Government for instituting such programmes to help solve the unemployment problem in the country.
