Health personnel ready for challenges in Central Gonja

Tamale, Oct. 21, GNA - The Northern Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) said it had put in place measures to deal with health related problems in the Central Gonja District following floods that have hit the area.

The directorate said there were sufficient drugs and logistics to deal with any health problems that might occurs.

Dr Jacob Mahama, the Deputy Northern Regional Director of Public Health of the Ghana Health Service, told the GNA in an interview that a team of health Officers including personnel from National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the security agencies had been sent to the area to access the situation. "Personnel from the region have gone to join officers in the district to ensure that people in the affected communities are safe", he said.

Dr Mahama calmed the fears of people that there might be an outbreak of cholera in the area saying, the GHS was ready to combat health related problems. There had been heightening fears that there would be an outbreak of cholera in the Central Gonja District due to the flooding of public places of convenience. 21 Oct 10
