Ada, July 20, GNA - Mr. Andreas Akakpo, Principal Environmental Health Officer, has urged health personnel to work harder and eschew vices drunkenness and laziness and other practices that could tarnish the image of their profession. He noted that the country was confronted with sanitation problems due to the lack of basic hygienic practices, and urged the assemblies to support environmental health workers to enable them to work effectively. These were contained in a speech read on behalf of Mr. Akakpo at the inauguration of a nine-member Greater Accra branch of Ghana Environmental Health Officers Association (GEHOA), at Ada at weekend. He urged the officers to work harder to raise environmental consciousness among the people. Mr Akakpo advised environmental health workers to update their skills and knowledge to enable them to cope with the challenges of their profession. The National President of the GEHOA, Mr. Edward Mba, called for a comprehensive programme to educate the public on proper environmental and hygienic practices. Officers of GEHOA are Mr. Emmanuel Aidoo Chairman, Mr. Prosper Delali-Fu Vice Chairman, Mr. William Asaam, Secretary, Mr. Isaac Wakah vice Secretary. The rest are Miss Esther Boakye Treasurer, Mr Quansah Cofie, Financial Secretary and Miss Patricial Mahama Florience Foli and Gethrude Nkrumah, trustees. 20 July 09
