Mr Geoffrey Kwasi Gosu, a herbalist on Thursday handed over a fully equipped Health Centre and a Nurses’ Quarters to the chiefs and people of Adaklu-Abuadi. Mr Gosu provided the Health Centre at the cost of 350,000 Ghana Cedis.
The facility comprises of an Out-Patient-Department, dispensary, laboratory, consulting rooms, male and female wards, maternity ward, delivery room, children’s ward and family planning unit, and would be managed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
Mr Gosu, a citizen of Adaklu-Abuadi, said he was moved by the plight of pregnant women and people bitten by snakes who had to struggle to get to Ho for medical attention. He was grateful to families who donated land for the project, and advised young people in the community to engage in viable and useful ventures.
Togbe Gbogbi Atsa the fifth, Paramount Chief of Adaklu Traditional Area, expressed gratitude to Mr Gosu, and urged other indigenes to emulate him. He was happy that his subjects would no longer have to endure pain and anxiety of accessing healthcare in far away Ho.
Togbe Atsa appealed to the GHS to post health workers to man the facility. Mr Charles Azagba, Adaklu District Director of Health Services, commended Mr Gosu for his foresight, and said the facility would soon start accepting clients on the National Health Insurance Scheme.
He said he had posted five workers to the Centre, and urged the community to cooperate with them. Dr Atsu Seake-Kwawu, Ho Municipal Director of Health Services, who represented the Regional Director of Health Services, also commended Mr Gosu, and educated the gathering on the Ebola disease, its causes, symptoms and prevention.
Mr Sky Ganaku, Adaklu District Chief Executive, described Mr Gosu as a “transformational leader.” He urged people in the community to desist from self medication and substance abuse.
