Nana Joseph Attah Owuraku (Jnr), Alternative Health Practitioner in-charge of Alpha Homeopathic Hospital at Nkawkaw, has called on the government to promote research and use of herbal medicines to cure cardiovascular diseases.
This, he said would help reduce the cost of treatment and promote quality health delivery.
Nana Owuraku told Ghana News Agency at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West District in the Eastern Region that there are common plants and herbs that could help reduce the alarming rate of heart problems and its related diseases.
He mentioned mistletoe as a common plant effective for curing heart diseases.
Nana Owuraku said mistletoe is a parasitic plant highly appreciated for its hypotensive properties as well as its arterial dilating action.
He said it could be used to reduce high blood pressure and improves blood flow to the brain and the heart.
The Health Practitioner said mistletoe eases the oppressing sensation in the chest, palpitation, nervousness and migraines.
Nana Owuraku said the plant increases the production of urine and eliminates metabolic toxic waste.
He however warned that the use of the plant for the treatment of diseases should be made scientific, since its berries are poisonous.
