The Holy Family Hospital recorded a total number of 976 abortion cases last year, a figure described as highly disturbing.

A public Health nurse at the Holy Family Hospital, Madam Blandina Dery revealed this to Classic News. She announced that, out of the 976 cases of Abortion that was recorded in the year 2012, 498 were spontaneous while 478 were induced.

She explained that, induced abortion means people who deliberately use certain herbs or concoctions to illegally abort their unborn babies while spontaneous abortions mean those who lost their pregnancies due to complications and the others.

Madam Blandina Dery observed that a lot of teenagers indulge in abortions due to fear of parents. Religious believe, as well as social economic intricacies which force them into drug abuse, self prescription and attend to quack doctors for dangerous operations.

Madam Blandina therefore appealed to the youth to abstain from pre-marital sex and the use of herbs and concoctions to terminate pregnancy since this procedures have the potential of causing death.

She however advised women who for one reason or the other needs to abort Festus to go to highly recognized Hospital rather than consulting quark doctors who have little knowledge on how to abort a baby adding that 4 people died last year as a illegal abortion in dubious ways.
