IMaH is open to all – Dr. Yaw Oppong

The Chief Executive Officer of the International Maritime Hospital, Dr. Yaw Oppong has emphasized that the hospital is opened to all, and all of its services can be accessed by everyone, contrary to beliefs the hospital was built to cater for staff of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority.

The CEO of the International Maritime Hospital, Dr. Yaw Oppong, who was speaking on Eye on Port live on national television, said the state of the art hospital is functional 24hr of every day of the week, and people from all walks of life are welcomed to access the facility.

"The International Maritime Hospital is owned by GPHA, but it is not for GPHA staff alone. It is for everybody, and we actually operate 24/7," the CEO said.

The Head of IMaH who described the hospital as one of the best in the country in terms of facility said the International Maritime Hospital offers a vast array of specialist care services which include high-equipped modern imagery department, a dialysis centre, a surgical unit, an obstetrics & gynecology department, orthopedic department among others.

"For the International Maritime Hospital, it is not just about the beds, it is about the facilities in the hospital that make it probably number 1 in Ghana," he expressed.

The 3-Tesla MRI infrastructure according to the CEO of IMaH, is the best in West Africa, and has even caught the attention of the Confederation of African Football who are interested in partnering to use the facility to determine bone age of footballers.

He revealed that a full range of dental services are available at IMaH as it possesses the most advanced dental outfit in the country, with highly sophisticated and up-to-date equipment.

"We have very good dental service and we do both basic and advanced dental care," he added.

According to Dr. Yaw Oppong, the pediatric ward is the most conducive part of the hospital and children are not only given optimal health care, but are kept comfortable and happy by the availability of educational and recreational items and supervised closely by very professional and caring nurses.

As part of efforts to protect the environment and for the health and safety of its clients, Dr. Yaw Oppong said IMaH maintains a proper Waste management system and indulge in all required activities and actions required to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal.

"We have the technology to treat the waste to become harmless ordinary waste before being disposed of," Dr. Oppong disclosed.

He said the hospital that has been designed specifically to meet the international market urged patients who are accustomed to travelling abroad for specialist care services to now patronize the International Maritime Hospital at more affordable rates.

"People who have to travel abroad to seek treatment, I'm telling them we can have it here and even attract people from the neighboring countries like Nigeria, Togo, etc to obtain that level of service," he entreated.

He also shared the importance IMaH would have the port and maritime industry where a lot of multinationals and locals converge in the performance of their daily duties.

"A place like the port where a lot of people converge, you can have transfer of diseases, etc so IMaH is opportune for people in the industry to take advantage of," the CEO of IMaH said.

Addressing the concerns of callers on Ghana’s history with poor maintenance culture, the IMaH boss assured to keep a good maintenance attitude towards the use of these high-end equipment, and even improve it over time.

The International Maritime Hospital is situated in Tema, and at the exit of the beach road in Community 3 one can find signage that lead him or her to the hospital.
