IPAS presents health equipments to Eastern Region

Koforidua, June 7, GNA - IPAS, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the USA on Tuesday presented medical equipment valued at 401 million cedis to help support efforts at reducing maternal mortality in the Eastern Region.

The items includes five gynaecology couch, 12 autoclaves, 12 atraumatic teneculum, 11 ambo bags, 19 revolving stools, 3 decon buckets, seven boilers and various quantities of other 12 medical equipments.

Presenting the items at Koforidua Dr Koma S. Jehu-Appiah, the Country Director of IPAS, said the presentation formed part of the Reducing Maternal Mortality and Morbidity (R3M ) Programme that is being organized by his orgnisation in collaboration with Population Council, ENGENDER HEALTH, NSI and Marie Stopes International. He said each of the organizations engaged in the R3M Programme had a specific role to play to ensure that the maternal mortality and morbidity in the country had been reduced to an appreciable level. Dr Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyirah, the Eastern Regional Director of Medical Service received the items, and said the items would be given to health facilities in Akuapem North, New Juaben and Birim South districts.

He thanked the donors and said the region was making efforts to bring down the high maternal mortality figures. 07 July 07
