Accra, Aug. 19, GNA - Grow Ghana Limited, a local non-governmental organisation, (NGO) is launching an international health fair to help reduce the gloomy health statistics in the Nzema District of the Western Region. The fair which would be on the theme: "Healthy is Wealthy," is the first step in a multi-phase development strategy for the Ellembelle community to take steps for the improvement of the health status of the people.
A press statement issued by Ms Allen Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO said the programme would be launched by the Minister of Health; Dr. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey on Saturday, August 22 at Esiama Secondary Technical High School. The programme will span October 25. The statement said the fair aimed at checking the extremely high maternal and infant mortality rate in the area and promote positive healthy lifestyle among the people.
Grow Ghana has established a base at Esiama where the officials are partnering the community, local businesses, Ghana Health Services and other stakeholders to promote the programme. The statement said the fair was an event designed to provide basic preventive outreach services to the people. The event would educate the community on topics such as HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Hypertension, Diabetes, Water/Sanitation, Breast Cancer and Maternal and Infant Mortality Reduction Strategies. People at Ellembelle lack access to routine medical care, due the poor road network and lack of medical professionals in the community.
