Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has launched an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) designed to support the well-being of its staff.

This initiative comes as part of the hospital's ongoing commitment to the welfare of its employees, recognizing the unique challenges faced by healthcare workers.

The EAP, which caters for over 8,000 hospital staff, provides a wide range of services including psychosocial support, professional and financial guidance, legal assistance, and emotional and general well-being support.

The program is available around the clock to ensure that staff can access help whenever needed.

Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, Chief Executive of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital during the launch of the program on July 24, 2024, highlighted the impetus for the program, noting the significant stress experienced by healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Just a few years ago, our staff were at the forefront of the COVID fight without vaccines, facing significant risks.

"Many of our staff got infected, and we lacked robust mechanisms to deal with their challenges. This EAP is a reaffirmation of Korle-Bu's commitment to its staff, especially as we mark our 100th anniversary."

Dr. Ampomah emphasized the importance of mental well-being for healthcare workers, noting that it directly affects productivity and the quality of care provided.

"The mental well-being of our staff is crucial. Many face significant challenges in their personal and professional lives, and this program is designed to provide the necessary support."

He added," Confidentiality of the program is key."

The program's implementation has been made possible with the support of BEL-AQUA Mineral Water, which has partnered with the hospital to ensure the initiative's success.
