“I want to place on record my sincere appreciation to the government for this kind gesture. This project represents a significant national investment in education, healthcare delivery, and development," the Asantehene stated.
While acknowledging the progress made so far, the Asantehene appealed for strict adherence to the project timeline.
“While we are grateful for the progress made thus far, we respectfully appeal that the timeline for the completion of the University Teaching Hospital be adhered to as originally scheduled. The timely delivery of this important facility will ensure it begins serving its intended purpose.
“I will be waiting on the president to commission the first phase of the project by the close of the year, and I am confident that this will encourage him to commit additional funds for its completion,” he stated.
When completed, the hospital will serve as both a modern teaching and research facility for medical students and a key healthcare center for the Ashanti Region.
Initially estimated at $125 million, the project was launched through a partnership between KNUST and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and was to be completed within six years.
The government has allocated GH¢46m for the continuation of the project meant to complement KNUST in the teaching of specialists health professionals and also provide healthcare to members of the public.
