The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has disassociated itself from media reports suggesting that the association supports the hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah’s continued stay in office.

According to the nurses, a statement made by the Acting Greater Accra Regional GRNMA Chairman, Jefferson Asare Dankwah, in a media interview was his personal view and does not represent their position.

“We want to make it clear that the comments by Mr. Jefferson do not represent the view of the Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association, and we completely distance ourselves,” the local president of the association, Prosper Kpobi, told GhanaWeb.

The nurses revealed that their local president is aware of their concerns better than the Acting Greater Accra Regional Chairman and was displeased with the media presence at a recent meeting.

At the meeting held on October 1, 2024, at the Obstetrics and Gynecology conference at Korle-Bu, issues such as accommodation, especially delays in allocation, high rent deductions, delays in signing promotion, conversion, upgrade letters and inadequate supply of water to the facility were discussed.

The nurses emphasized that the CEO's tenure extension was never discussed, contradicting media reports that they backed Dr. Ampomah's extension.

They also clarified that they are part of the Korle-Bu Senior Staff Association (KOSSA), with a nurse serving as the current secretary.

The nurses urged the public to disregard the misleading media publications on the matter.
