Accra, Nov. 28, GNA- A group of Canadian Neuro-Surgeons under the Canadian Korle-Bu Neuro Science Project, on Friday presented Neuro equipment and 300 special beds worth 2.5 million dollars to the Korle-Bu Neuro Centre in Accra.
The equipment is to assist the centre in its operations until the 35 million-dollar Neuro Science Centre for Excellence for West Africa to be established in Ghana, at the Korle-Bu Hospital, is completed.
Neuro science treats patients suffering from the brain and the spinal cord, which cause paralyses.
Ms Majorie Ratel, the Canadian group Neuro Board Chairperson, presented the items and said the Neuro centre operating now at Korle-bu lacked the needed equipment.
She said the Neuro specialists at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital were not able to treat their patients perfectly because they did not have the facility to do so.
Professor Felix Durity, Neuro surgeon from Canada said there would be programmes where Ghanaian Neuro surgeons would be trained in Canada to enable the centre to operate efficiently.
Professor Frimpong Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of the Korle-Bu Hospital, receiving the items, said the equipment would help the centre to operate effectively.
"The centre can fully operate now with the availability of the tools, specialists can easily diagnose and be able to treat patients very well," he said.
