Accra, March 1, GNA - The Kwahuman Association of Switzerland on Thursday donated two ambulances to the Kwahu and Agogo Government Hospitals as their contribution to the promotion and expansion of healthcare facilities in the Eastern and Ashanti regions. Dr Abena Keller-Agyepong, President of the Association, said the Association, in collaboration with the West African Rescue Association, would in addition provide two 24-hour hotline numbers, guarantee the preliminary cost of patients' bills in situations where a patient was incapable of doing so and train staff of beneficiary hospitals to upgrade their skills.

She said the ambulances acquired from the Zurich Ambulance Services included Agogo because the two towns were strategically located. Deputy Minister of Health Samuel Owusu Agyei urged Ghanaians living abroad to assist government in its health delivery programme. Finance and Economic Planning Minister Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ashanti Akyem which houses the Agogo Hospital, commended the Association for the donation. He noted that there were tax exemptions for medical items but cautioned that importers should bring in quality items and not to dump inferior items on the country.

The Agogohene, Nana Akuoku Sarpong, thanked the Association for being regular in donating such items to their local communities and "even exceeding their jurisdiction and extending it to the people of Agogo".
