Latter Day Saints donate blood

The Koforidua District branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has donated 70 units of blood to the Blood Bank of the Koforidua Regional Hospital as part of activities marking the Community Service Day of the Church.

Before the blood donation, about 500 members of the Church had spent four hours of weeding the hospital and cleared choked gutters, trimmed flowers and hedges and cut the lawns of the hospital.

The exercise was in response to a request by the Church in Africa for all its members to offer services to the members of the community where they live in fulfillment of the example of Jesus Christ who came on earth to render service to humanity.

The Koforidua District of the church is made up of the branches at Koforidua, Effiduase, Adweso, Oyoko, Maase and Suhum.

Nana Baffour Takyi of the Blood Bank thanked the Church for coming to the aid of the blood bank at a time when the bank’s stock was low.

He that about two years ago when the blood bank was in crisis and made an appeal for help, the Church donated some units of blood to help save the situation.

Nana Baffour Takyi appealed to the church to consider signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Blood Bank for them to organize blood donation every six months for the hospital so that in return, anytime any member of the church was in need of blood, that fellow would have the opportunity to receive any quantity without replacement.

He called for more organizations to regularly volunteer to donate blood to the Blood Bank so that, the Blood Bank would be in a position to offer blood to the patients of the hospital without the need to demand replacement.
