The women's wing of the Living Streams International Church, Complete Renewed Equipped Women (CREW), has registered more than 700 people in the La community with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) since 2009.

Plans are far advanced to register more people on the scheme in the near future to improve upon their living standards.

Dr (Mrs) Davina Markwei, President of CREW, disclosed this during the 10th Annual Medial Outreach at La in Accra, on Saturday.

She said the church has reached out to the people of La through various programmes such as medical and social support activities.

She said “We believe that as individuals and as a society, we are responsible to the community in which we work and live and so the CREW held this medical outreach as part of its social responsibility in the community.

“We have chosen to organise our yearly medical outreaches in La because we have a special passion for the welfare of the people in this community”, the President said.

Dr (Mrs) MarkweI said it was heart-breaking to see people die as a result of lack of basic medical care so we are organising this medical outreach to help people from all walks of life who cannot afford medical care.

She appealed to other stakeholders to support the government in reaching out to the millions of people who are still not registered with the NHIS.
