London-based club supports Sickle Cell Department

Accra, Feb. 21, GNA - Bishop T. Ga Club, a London-based association of Gas, on Thursday donated a computer and accessories worth 540 pounds to the Sickle Cell Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Nii Yarter, Public Relations Officer of the Club, said the donation was its first support to the Sickle Cell Unit, and it had requested for a list of needs from the hospital authorities to meet some pressing demands.

Ga Club, a London-based association of Gas, on Thursday donated a computer and accessories worth 540 pounds to the Sickle Cell Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Nii Yarter, Public Relations Officer of the Club, said the donation was its first support to the Sickle Cell Unit, and it had requested for a list of needs from the hospital authorities to meet some pressing demands. He said the club, formed 10 years ago with 30 members was providing health care support for the aged in society. The Rev. Professor George Ankra-Badu, Acting Director of the Department, who received the items, said about two per cent of the population was still living with this genetic disorder. He said there was the need to commit more resources to the department and expressed gratitude to the club for its support.
