The Ministry of Health has assured the staff of Ridge Hospital that it has put in measures to address the impasse that has erupted after the appointment of a new Medical Director of the hospital.

Describing the situation as unfortunate, the Ministry said it is in contact with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to address and resolve the tension brewing at the hospital.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Mr Alex Segbefia the Health Minister said, the Ministry has received petitions from the staff and workers of the Hospital as well as from one of applicants and is considering them.

He said the GHS Council has therefore instituted a committee to look into the issue and advise accordingly.

“I am therefore urging all staff and workers of the Hospital to excise restrain whilst the Ministry finds solution to the issue,” he added.

He advised that no staff or worker should make any public statement on the matter and remove all banners and posters placed in the Hospital to enable the health facility to take care of patients.

Mr Segbefia also urged the public and other stakeholders to remain calm whilst the Ministry carries out its supervisory role of ensuring stability in the Regional hospital.

Tension has brewed at the Ridge Hospital after the appointment of Dr Thomas Anaba as Medical Director.

This has resulted in some senior staff members at the health facility protesting against his leadership citing irregularities in the appointment process.

Some senior staff of the Hospital, the GNA spoke to on conditions of anonymity said they prefer one of the applicants Dr Srofenyoh, the current Acting Medical Director, describing him as the ideal man for the facility.

“Although the appointment of Dr Thomas Anaba, followed a series of processes including the advertisement of a vacant post, short listing of candidates and interviews, Dr Srofenyoh who was part of the shortlisted candidates and went through the interview is the perfect man for the job,” one of the members of staff said.
