Residents of Madina and its environs in the Greater Accra Regional suburb were beside themselves with joy over the weekend, after going through a successful health screening exercise at the local Clinic of Direct Aid, a nongovernmental organization founded by some Kuwaiti citizens, in the area.
The health screening exercise which received huge patronage from people from all walks of life was on Hepatitis B, High Blood Pressure or Hypertension, and Malaria.
At the event, Hajia Hajara Abubakar (Mrs.) the Superintendent Health Assistant at the Madina Clinic told this paper that the exercise was a follow-up of last year and was done annually as part of the Corporate Social Responsibilities of Direct Aid.
The aim of the screening exercise, according to the Superintendent Health Assistant, was to improve and stabilize the health conditions of people, adding that economic growth could only be achieved with a healthy body and mind.
Beside that the Country Director of Direct Aid, Ahmed Sheik Abdirahman Omar, also hinted that the exercise would be carried out at the Adenta facility of the organisation today, barring any last minute hitches.
He noted in a separate interview that the organization, as part of its social responsibilities has also introduced school feeding programmes at its school in Tamale for the year ended 2013 with an amount of Ghc59280.00.
“During the year ended 2013, the Agency also constructed fifty Wells at various regions in the country, namely; Eastern, Central, Ashanti and Upper West respectively and if you must know we have registered our student onto the NHIS”, he revealed.
The organisation also assisted the needy in society with GH¢10,000 which was shared to 20 people, where each person received GH¢500 to do economic venture to earn a living and assisted 60 individuals with money to do self-reliant project in the Communities, the paper gathered.
Regarding education, Ahmed Sheik Abdirahman Omar said the Agency had constructed two senior high schools in the country during the year of 2013 fiscal year; in Adenta and Tamale, stressing that it had provided support to the overall mental, physical, social and psychological growth and development of the students by bringing them up with human outlook through formal education.
Asked what his vision is for the organisation, Country Director said his vision is to build and ultra-modern hospital and a tertiary institution for the benefit of society before his tenure of office comes to an end.
