Malaria remains the highest of all Out-Patient Department cases in the Sunyani West District, though many interventions, has led to a decline in the reported cases.
Mrs Eva Aryee, the District Director of Health, announced this at the opening session of the 2015 Annual Review Meeting of the Directorate at Odumase, the district capital.
Mrs Aryee said the cases reduced from 64,129 in 2014 to 51,055 last year.
She explained that the reduction was as a result of the strict adherence to testing before treatment of malaria cases with abundance supply of the test kits.
On Tuberculosis, Mrs Aryee said efforts were being rate to improve on the measures for reduction.
With the support of Marie Stopes International, family planning coverage in the district increased from 55.2 per cent to 67.1 per cent last year, she said.
One person died from cholera, whilst 18 other cases were recorded, she said.
She said the quick response from the District Assembly Epidemic Committee and the Health Directorate brought the situation of cholera under control.
Mrs Cordelia Yeboaa, the Chief Nursing Officer at the Brong-Ahafo Regional Directorate of Health, appealed to health workers to accept postings to serve in deprived communities.
She said much attention was needed in the rural areas, and entreated especially the nurses not to see their postings as victimisation.
