Accra, May 7, GNA - The Ghana Traditional Chinese Medical Association on Thursday donated computers and accessories to the Ghana Traditional Medicine Practice Council at the Ministry of Health in Accra. The items included two printers, computer and accessories, giant flat screen monitor and a stabilizer. Dr Xiao Bo, chairman of the Chinese association who made the presentation, appealed to the ministry to utilize the items well to provide the right services to patients.

Mr F.K. Hlortsi-Akakpo, Registrar of TMPC, said the Council had been mandated by the Traditional Medicine Practice Law, Act 575, to promote, regulate and control the practice of traditional medicine and related activities.

He added that the agency had been implementing the ministerial directive to undertake a core function of registering traditional health practitioners (THPs).

Dr Xue jun Wang of the China Recovery Clinic said the association was founded in 1997 aimed at ensuring that all members of the association were qualified Chinese Medical Practitioners who delivered the right, accurate and effective services to their patients. "We really appreciate the efforts of the ministry at regulating traditional medicine landscape, because as you know so many unethical practices are going on by both the Ghanaians and foreigners," he added. Dr Benjamin Kumbuor, Deputy Minister of Health, thanked the Chinese Association for their kind gesture. He gave the assurance that the said directives would be strictly enforced so as to eliminate difficulties that had characterized the practice of traditional medicine.
