The Effiduase Junior Staff Quarters in the New Juaben Municipality, have been invaded by mosquitoes to the extent that children living in the quarters cannot go out to play.

The staff quarters provide accommodation to staff of the municipal assembly and other staff of government institutions, ministries, departments and agencies who pay rent to the municipal assembly.

Several appeals to the assembly for a mosquito control exercise to relieve the residents have fallen on death ears. Children and older people alike are always in trousers or long dresses, to at least prevent the mosquitoes from biting them, shop owners around the community have to light mosquito coils even in the afternoon to wade off the mosquitoes.

Ghana News Agency (GNA) findings revealed that poor sewage system coupled with some mechanic shops which have occupied portions of the community, are blocking the flow of waste water in the community, thus creating breeding grounds for the mosquitoes.

According to residents, they have made several appeals to the assembly to enforce their sanitation bye-laws against the mechanics, but to no avail. When GNA contacted the assembly, officials of the assembly admitted the problem, and promised to spray the entire community in collaboration with Zoomlion.
