The Agormada Unit of Abibiman Sankofa Cultural Movement (ASCUM), a Community-Based Organisation (CBO), has undertaken a clean-up exercise at Agormada near Dodowa in the Greater Accra Metropolis.

The members also distributed pamphlets and educational materials on the environment to residents.

Mr Freeman K. Madji, Chief Executive Officer of ASCUM, called on the gatheringto keep their environment clean saying “cleanliness is next to Godliness”.

He said that similar programmes have been designed for the ten units of the Movement comprising over 600 members across the country, to help keep their communities clean.

Mr Madji urged other organisations to work hard to ensure a clean environment, saying, ASCUM would continue to create public awareness on the negative effects of filth on the environment.

Mr Emmanuel A. Annor, Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Director of ASCUM, appealed to the people to support programmes aimed at keeping the environment clean and that, the Movement would collaborate with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to organize seminars to sensitise the public on the importance of keeping a clean environment to national development.

Mr Annor said the Movement had already contacted the National Board for Small Scale Industries to organize workshops on cottage industries for people.
