The National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) has congratulated President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for winning the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
A statement released by Joyce Afutu, Director of Communications and Corporate Affairs for NCCE, said: “The NCCE congratulates the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for winning the 2016 elections. We urge the NPP and supporters to celebrate in moderation in order to maintain the unity of our nation.”
It added: “The NCCE also congratulates President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for graciously conceding defeat in good faith in the interest of the unity, stability and development of Ghana. We also commend all other presidential candidates of political parties that contested in the elections for their show of political maturity.
“We commend the Electoral Commission for the smooth process of elections. Indeed, the exemplary efficiency and transparency of the 2016 elections comparable to international standards demonstrate the state institutions have both the capacity and competency to deliver on their mandates.”
