The Participatory Action for Rural Development Alternatives (PARDA), a Non-Governmental Organization, on Friday donated medical supplies to the Upper East Regional Directorate.
The items included six delivery beds, 120 boxes of disposable gloves, 12 baby weighing scales, 12 mackintoshes, 26 disposable gowns and six solar lamps.
They are to be distributed to the Tanga and Sapeliga health facilities in the Bawku West District, Zuarungu and Sumbrungu health facilities in the Bolgatanga Municipal and Naga and Gia in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal.
PARDA had, in addition, provided a shed for antenatal care and child welfare services at the Gia Health Centre, and also supplied water points to the Zuarungu, Sumbrungu, Naaga and Gia health facilities.
Dr Michael Wombeogo, the Director of PARDA, who presented the items to the Regional Health Directorate, mentioned that apart from the donation, his outfit in the course of this year also donated wellington boots, solar torchlights, raincoats, and mobile phones with call credits and stipends to community health volunteers and Traditional Birth Attendants to support them in their work.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility to provide health elucidation, PARDA has produced documentary on Obstetric Fistula to educate the general public particularly women,” the Director stated.
Dr Wombeogo indicated that as at 2014 his outfit and other partner NGOs including OXFAM and Zochonis, had spent GH¢68,000.00 for the medical supplies, and other health related support.
He said the support was very necessary since it was becoming very difficult for the country to achieve the Millennium Development Goals four and five, and stressed the need for public-private partnership to fast track their achievement.
Madam Vida Abaseka, Chief Nursing Officer at the hospital, received the items on behalf of the Regional Director of Health Services.
