NGO presents medical supplies to Eastern Regional Hospital

Koforidua, June 02, GNA- A United States based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Medshare International, through their agents in Ghana, Reach the Children, had presented medical supplies estimated at 25,000 US dollars to the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua.

The supplies include irrigation syringes bulb, mattress covers, disposal theatre dressing, surgical gowns, surgical set with disposal bowl, nerve protectors, bilateral limb sheets and 32 various medical items.

Presenting the items at a short ceremony at Koforidua on Friday, Dr Muktar Bayor of Medshare International, Atlanta, Georgia, USA said every year, thousands of patients in depressed areas in both the developed and developing countries do not get access to medical care because of poverty.

He said his organization therefore receive medical supplies from the USA and distributes to hospitals in the depressed areas of the USA and other hospitals and health facilities in 38 developing countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Dr Bayor said, his organization believed that, through sharing, it could make a difference and give relief to many suffering patients. The Country Director of Reach the Children, Mr. Agyarko Mintah, said Medshare distributes all sorts of medical supplies and equipment except drugs.

He said when deciding on the supplies, the organization takes into account the needs of the medical facility concerned. Ms Gloria Konadu, Principal Nursing Officer who received the items on behalf of the Eastern Regional Hospital, Koforidua thanked the donors and assured them that, the items would be put to good use to bring relief to the patients.
