The Kwahu Afram Plains North National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registered 6, 000 new members within the first six days when it started the biometric registration exercise.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Media Auditing and Tracking of Developmental Projects team at Donkorkrom, the District Manager of the NHIA, Mr. Eugene Opoku Afrifa, said over 58,000 people had been registered as at the end of October this year, and hoped to register 70,000 members by the end of the year.

He said the District had set up two additional registration centres at Ekye Amanfrom and Tease in addition to the Donkorkurom centre, while efforts were being made to establish some centres at Dwarf Island and Maame Krobo, all in the District, to enable more people to benefit from the registration exercise.

He urged the people to cooperate with the staff to ensure the success of the registration exercise.

The District Manager also noted that some service providers had been engaged to register people in some of the remote communities, adding the NHIA personnel would later send their machines there to take the pictures and prepare the identity (ID) card for them.

He appealed for additional vehicles and machines to enable personnel to travel to remote communities to carry out the exercise.
