Techiman (B/A), Sept. 13, GNA - The Techiman Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has registered 50,782 persons, about a quarter of the population of the township.
Mr. David Afful, Techiman Municipal Manager of the Scheme, who announced this at the launch of the scheme on Monday, said 27,330 are women and 23,452 men.
He said 29,124 aged persons and the under-aged, who are exempted from making any contributions towards the scheme, have also been registered and that some 38,978 registered members from 152 communities had been provided with identification cards.
Mr. Afful said as of August this year, the scheme had realized more than 1.5 billion cedis.
Mr. Philip Akanzinge, Brong Ahafo Regional Co-ordinator of the scheme, said the system would not discriminate in offering services to clients but rather ensure that the right medical attention is given to all registered members.
Mr. Prince Yaw Donyina, Techiman Municipal Chief Executive, gave assurance that the Municipal Assembly would offer the necessary logistic support towards the sustenance of the scheme.
He urged the people to observe good environmental practices by keeping their surroundings clean to avoid contracting communicable but preventable diseases, which could drain the finances of the scheme. Mr. Kwabena Darko, Chairman of the Management Board of the Scheme advised registered members to be faithful and report genuine illness for attention and not to rush to the hospitals because they had registered with the scheme.
