Accra, April 14, GNA - Twenty six newborn babies were delivered at the Ridge and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals on Good Friday to join Christians all over the world to mark the death of Jesus Christ. Out of the number delivered as at 1345 hours, Korle-Bu had 14 babies while the Ridge Hospital had eight.
Ms Patience Occansey, Senior Nursing Officer at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Labour Ward; told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that out of the 14 deliveries, three were through caesarean section while one had a twin boy and a girl.
Eight of the 14 were females and seven males. The mothers and babies were doing well.
At the Ridge Hospital Labour Ward, Ms Alice Avuworda, Principal Midwifery Superintendent, told the GNA that out of the eight deliveries one was through caesarean section. They were five females and three males and all of them were in good health.
The Emergency Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching was virtually empty with a few minor accident cases being attended to by nurses on duty. Ms Mavis Togbor, Senior Nursing Officer in charge of the Unit, said 31 cases were recorded with 10 being Road Traffic Accident (RTA) cases. "There is only one serious RTA case involving an unidentified middle aged man and has been sent to the Intensive Care Unit". Ms Togbor said the accident occurred on the Kasoa road and the victim was rushed to Korle because of the seriousness of it. At the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Ridge Hospital, 13 cases had been recorded most of which were minor cases.
