The Hope For Future Generation (HFFG), a non-governmental organisation, has sensitised residents and students of Hijrah Islamic School at Nima on the observance of basic hygiene and environmental sanitation.
Madam Jacqueline Daku-Mante, a Communication Officer of HFFG in an interview with Ghana News Agency said the exercise was part of activities to climax the Father’s Day celebration and bring on board sanitation issues.
She said everybody is aware of the issue of sanitation and how hazardous it could be to the health of the people, hence the need to use the occasion to appreciate and recognise Islamic fathers to encourage them to lead their families into a hygienic way of living.
She said there is also the need for the Nima residents to pay attention to effective hand washing since many illnesses result from people not observing cleanliness at all times.
Madam Salomey Ankamah, Administrative Manager of HFFG took the residents through sexual reproductive health issues to enable them play a lead role in the development of the community and expressed the hope that they would take the educational programme seriously.
She gave the assurance that her NGO is willing to construct a toilet facility in households in the community where the landlords are expected to pay 60 per cent of the cost.
Mr Abdul Aziz Masud Suker, Headteacher of the Hijrah Islamic School expressed gratitude to HFFG for bringing such laudable hygiene programme to the school and the community.
He said it had become more than necessary now to improve physical and economic conditions of the environment to enhance the health of the residents.
He called for more coordination between the Nima residents and the school authorities, to ensure compliance of simple basic hygiene and environmental rules.
