Begoro, Feb. 11, GNA- The Fanteakwa District of the Ghana Health Service on Monday, urged the public to discard the notion that pregnant women are given free delivery at health centres. The Deputy District Director of Health Services, Ms Margaret Asare, made this known at the annual performance meeting of the service at Begoro.

She said recently four lactating mothers were detained after delivery for their inability to pay hospital bills. Mrs Asare urged couples to register their pregnant wives with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme for a free delivery. She expressed her worry that despite the numerous mosquito treated nets being made available to the public, malaria cases was on the ascendancy and had topped the list in the district. Mrs Asare advised the public to stop "worshipping the treated mosquito nets as "idols" and rather sleep in them to prevent being attacked by malaria.

She said the district again recorded one maternal death even though the hospital now has two doctors. 11 Feb. 08
