Offinso (Ash), June 5, GNA - Charity Beyond Borders, a pro-health non-governmental organisation based in the US, has organized a two-day free health screening exercise for residents of the Offinso Municipality held at Amoawi. The beneficiaries were screened for diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory problems as well as eye defects and were given medication whilst those with complications were referred to the hospital. The NGO distributed over 2,000 pairs of eye glasses to those in need after the optical examination. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday, Dr. Owusu Achaw Duah, a medical consultant and leader of the medical team, said the only way Ghanaians could forestall the rampant cases of heart-related diseases was through regular exercises. He appealed to the citizenry to shun excessive alcohol intake, smoking and womanizing which had direct negative effect on the heart and one's life span. Dr. Duah said the exercise would be sustained and urged the beneficiaries to at all time lead healthy life styles. Professor Lisa Trujillo of the Charity Beyond Borders, said her outfit intended to motivate residents of Offinso to embark on canned tomato projects. She said her NGO had planned with stakeholders to undertake the tomato project in view of the abundance of tomato in the Offinso Municipality.
